  1. Erma - After all the Fox News hysteria over the riots in Benghazi, it turns out a Republican committee found no evidence of any administration wrong doing or cover-ups, just plain ineptitude by our intelligence people, leading to the ambassador's death. The lesson here is for readers to be skeptical of what they hear on certain cable channels.

  2. Court House - Is it true that the police officers who are working the construction sites are making $75 an hour? If so, what?

    Editor's Note:
Officers at the GSP construction sites receive a set rate of $60 per hour, according to Middle Township Police Captain John Edwards. The Herald recently published a story on this subject, which you may find here: http://goo.gl/9u4U6s.

  3. Wildwood - What I find most disappointing in regards to Ferguson is that the whole affair has become some sort of twisted racial issue. It should really be much simpler; if you espouse the thug life, no matter what your race, you run the risk of dying a violent death, at the hands of the police or another thug. The greatest disservice is that no one protests or riots for the dozens of innocent, young black men who are murdered in America's inner cities every day by other young black men who have been exploited by the promoters of the thug life.

  4. Cape May - What does looting and burning a city have to do with so-called peaceful protesting? What is happening in Ferguson is disgraceful.

  5. North Wildwood - Traveling north on the GSP, with plans of making a left at the hospital, I was more than surprised to see a Middle Twp. police officer standing in the middle of the highway. All north traffic stopped. All traffic heading east stopped. The only traffic moving was heading west from SH, but even those drivers were confused. Lights were turning green, then red, three times. I was wondering what was going on. Suddenly, 40 to 50 school buses heading west or north from SH were given the opportunity to sail through. This is a dangerous situation in the name of time schedules.

  6. Wildwood Crest - Wildwood Crest still does not have a police chief? Are you kidding me? After DePaul stepped down, there should have been an immediate replacement for the chief's position. He submitted his letter of resignation in Feb.! Instead, there is a Lt. in charge of an entire police force. The residents should be outraged at something so despicable.

  7. Sea Isle City - Eliminating tolls and beach fees makes almost as much sense as eliminating all taxes. As annoying as it may be, the things we enjoy cost money. Those who use those things need to pay for it. I wonder if the spouter who suggested those eliminations would perform whatever work he/she does for free, or on the barter system? We all hate taxes, and we all would rather get something for free, but in the real world, things cost money, and I certainly would never begrudge a toll taker his/her salary.

  8. Avalon - The Coast Guard Base, like hundreds of other military installations, uses private security because it is cost effective. The price of training, billeting and quartering military personnel to do that job is far, far higher than paying a contract security company, which is responsible for benefits, etc. Even at highly critical bases, first line security is almost always handled by contract guards. Along with every coastie, marine or airman comes his housing, dependents, etc. and prevents him from being in another assignment.

  9. Wildwood - Why are we allowing the city to squander a $400,000 grant to build a ramp from Cedar and the Boardwalk to Pacific Ave. when the city already has 30+ noncompliance ADA ramps in major disrepair? See Garfield Ave. and the Boardwalk; that ramp has been caving in, blocked off and ignored by the City of Wildwood for over three years and counting. We should be using that money to repair and update what we have before we build eyesores no one even knows will do anything positive for Pacific Ave.

  10. Ocean City - A lot of times, when certain "taxpayers" spout off, I detect a twinge of jealousy in their spouts. For instance, the spout about the Avalon employee who takes a borough truck home to Cumberland Co.; depending on his assignment, hours and possibility of being called out, it may actually make good sense for him to drive that truck home. Not all government jobs are "ice cream and cake" jobs, and being called in to work for urgent matters at all hours of the day/night, on overtime, is a reality, and for years, managers have weighed the pros and cons of take home vehicles for certain employees.
