  1. Lower Township - Cape May's 2014 TEDx topic "The Pursuit of Happiness" was terrific. Thanks to Norris Clark for the vision and inspiration. Thanks to the many volunteers that made it happen.

  2. North Wildwood - To a North Wildwood spouter: I gave an Avalon spout a thumbs down for showing total disrespect to our soldiers who served and died in Vietnam. I didn't have to sign my son up or ask him to sign up to serve his country, he signed up on his own. I'm proud of my son and all the young men and women who are overseas serving their country. If it wasn't for the brave young men and women like them, you wouldn't be enjoying the freedom you enjoy today.

  3. Wildwood Crest - To the spouter who wants to do away with sports and extra curricular activities in school because it's too expensive: How would you like to have gone to school with nothing but work? Would you want to send your child to a school with no band, no play, no sports? The one thing I don't mind paying for is our childrens' well-rounded education.

  4. Wildwood Crest - In response to paying taxes and what my child learns in Wildwood Crest: You commented that I would think differently if pulled over by a cop. The difference is, when pulled over by a cop, I know I did something wrong. The school did wrong by teaching sexually explicit information to children whose parents may or may not want their child to be exposed to that stuff. They need to be told they did wrong, and account for their actions, and not have it happen again. Another reason my child goes to private school, where I have a say in their education.

  5. Lower Township - There's still no board agenda posted for Sept. for Lower Township schools. Why the delay? Middle puts theirs up in five days.

  6. Wildwood Crest - With our aging population, especially in an area of elderly retirees here, our state legislators should begin to consider laws, similar to ones in Ore., to allow doctors to approve end-of-life decisions by suffering patients, subject to rules approved by the medical association. A recent TV report showing the unimaginable suffering of the sick, and the treatment of the untreatable with pain relievers, points to the need to begin discussing this issue.

  7. Cape May - I disagree with the Avalon spouter who reads this feature for entertainment. Lately, the Herald is to be congratulated for providing a forum for more informative debate on substantive issues, such as the thinking of the various generations, war and political issues. Many of us feel our nation is in search of an entirely new direction.

  8. West Wildwood - The mayor and commissioners here tout an open government, but the borough's website information is older than my 2-year-old daughter. There is little or nothing listed showing ordinances or resolutions since May 2012. Navigating the website leaves me even more confused and frustrated. It is far from being user-friendly. What are our mayor and commissioners hiding? Do they think keeping voters confused keeps them happy? I think not!

  9. North Cape May - Regarding that jaw-dropping Herald letter by a writer wishing the U.S. would return to the British Empire: Are the rules for Letters to the Editor different from those of spouts, since the offensive letter's contents probably would never make it into a spout? As a veteran who faced the enemy, I found the lack of patriotism overwhelming.

    Editor's Note:
Letters to the Editor differ from Spout Off in the fact that letters are not anonymous, whereas spouts are, and letters can be 600 words, whereas spouts are 600 characters. However, both give readers an outlet to voice their opinions. The letter you're referring to was submitted as an opinion, and therefore would've been eligible for publication in Spout Off had it been submitted that way.

  10. Court House - In Middle Township, Benny's Landing Road ends at the bay. It's ecosystem is being threatened with cement barriers and a parking lot. Due to construction and highway expansion, wildlife has been severely threatened in this area. If these plans for a parking lot get approved, we will lose more natural habitat. We will see more animal displacement and encounter an unknown amount of irreparable harm to the aquatic ecosystem. Has the EPA been notified? Is NJDEP overseeing the proposal? It would also be a mistake to encourage more traffic on a residential, thin, windy street known for its hazards.
