  1. Town Bank - The proposed changes to beach policy in Lower Township are short-sighted, unnecessary and self-destructive. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That includes people who are well-behaved and their dogs too, leashed, of course, as required presently. There has existed for many years on those beaches a real sense of community and a positive family culture that is responsible and respectful to all others there as well as homeowners who choose not to go to the beach. There is a bonding, esprit de corps and good vibrations that good people are drawn to in L.T. every summer.

  2. Middle Township - A spouter was upset because a police officer didn't stop to help an injured squirrel. Can anyone realistically expect that tax money should be expended to rescue, provide first aid and medical care for an inured, wild animal? Humans have done a lot to damage the ecology, but the death of one squirrel will not upset the cosmic order. Letting the squirrel die was not cruelty, it was nature. Nature is cruel. Little animals are eaten by bigger animals every day. Life and death are natural factors. Resources should not be expended on injured, wild animals, except maybe to humanely put them down.

  3. Ocean City - There are lots of spouts recommending the U.S. stay out of foreign affairs and stop foreign financial aid. Well, that sounds good, and lots of us support an 'America first' attitude when it comes to spending; we have more than enough needy right here at home, but it is not realistic to expect that we become isolationist, as some beloved conservative politicos are advocating. We do not exist in a vacuum. Nations do not gain allies because of brotherhood or like-mindedness, they gain allies by offering military and/or financial support. Remember our pre-WWII isolationism? Learn from history.

  4. Sea Isle City - A North Cape may spouter inquired about anonymous reporting "about nurses who are not using their skills to their full potential," citing a neglect case. I can't think of a worse idea. First of all, what makes this spouter qualified to judge a nurse's skills, unless he/she is a nurse too, and what value are anonymous complaints? They are rarely verifiable and can have origins in personal grudges. If people see some egregious neglect or misconduct that is recognizable to any lay person, then they should report it to institutional and public authorities, and be brave enough to give their name.

  5. Clermont - A sewer pipeline running through South Seaville and Clermont will have a devastating effect on all residents of Dennis Township. It will not matter one whit if we want high-density housing or not, the developers will force the matter and it will happen. All DT residents need to pull their heads out of the sand and speak up now, as once the pipeline goes through it will be too late. This isn't a "chicken little" cry; this is the biggest threat to our rural character that our township has ever faced.

  6. North Cape May - Replying to the spouter who said that there were leash and clean-up laws already: That is part of the problem; some people ignore them and think it does not apply to them. This, in turn, makes it bad for the ones who do obey the rules. My suggestion was free dog tags for locals and dog tags for visitors with a fee applied. Rules could be handed out and the fees could be used to pay for enforcement in part. There could be no excuses, as they now have the rules in print.

  8. Villas - When I go into a restaurant after spending hours in the car driving down for a weekend, it bugs me when things are misspelled. If you have a special board, spell the specials correctly, otherwise do not write on the board.

  9. Avalon - To the Avalon spouter regarding Amtrak: The bipartisan Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act of 2015 could subsidize Amtrak by an estimated $7 billion from 2016 to 2020. If the bill becomes law, taxpayers will continue paying for Amtrak's losses for at least five more years. Despite generous taxpayer subsidies, Amtrak has run operation losses every year since it began operating in 1971. That is insane! The government never makes a profit and has big losses that we, the taxpayers get stuck paying. Privatize Amtrak, the Post Office, etc., and stop taxing the people to pay for gov. losses!

  10. North Cape May - The dog owners in Lower Township are asking too much. The council has offered to allow you to have your dogs on the beach 18 hours a day and that is not good enough. The beach is for everyone, not just dog owners. I think dog owners are missing the point here. People are looking for some peace, quiet and cleanliness when they are at the beach and it's not there anymore because of the dogs.
