Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's master sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, and his partner Dr. Watson return to Cape May for a weekend of mystery, murder and suspense during Sherlock Holmes Weekend, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), Fri., Nov. 2 through Sun., Nov. 4. Holmes and Watson face off with their most dangerous rival in this year's baffling case, "Sherlock Holmes and the Trial of Moriarty's Challenge."
The gauntlet is thrown and challenges abound. Join Holmes and Watson as they race into the maze of deceptions while they attempt to solve a murder before it actually happens. The possible victims are many, including the Queen, herself. Choose the wrong one, and all will be lost. Who is the master of this treacherous riddle? Professor James Moriarty, of course.
Full Sherlock Holmes weekend packages are sold out, but tickets are still available for the Sherlock Holmes Weekend Search for Clues Tour on Sat., Nov. 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Gather the evidence you need as you "stalk the mean streets" of Victorian Cape May and unravel the clues that will help you solve the crime. You'll tour the interiors of a selection of Cape May's Victorian architectural treasures where you'll find clues and complete your answer sheet. The Search for Clues Tour can be purchased separately at $15 per person. Anyone completing an answer sheet is eligible to win the Sherlock Holmes Weekend $250 grand prize and need not be present to win.
Also during Sherlock Holmes Weekend, the East Lynne Theater Company (ELTC) presents "Sherlock Holmes' Adventure of the Norwood Builder." On Fri., Nov. 2 and Sat., Nov. 3, step back in time during this tale in the style of a vintage radio broadcast complete with live sound effects and commercials. Holmes and Watson follow the evidence which points to a young lawyer as a murderer, but is he being set up? The production takes place at 8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Decatur and Hughes streets. General admission is $25, full-time students are $15, and children aged 18 and under are free.
