The Performing Arts Center of Middle Township announced at a press conference Thursday that it will present a concert at its state-of-the-art facility to raise $10,000 for the New Jersey victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Kay Aspell, managing director of The PAC, said New York performer Ron Gartner has volunteered to do a show on the night of Dec. 11, at 7:30, with all proceeds turned over to the Cape May County chapter of the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

“Much of southern Cape May County was spared the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, so we decided to help others less fortunate in New Jersey,” said Aspell. “We have had our share of severe storms here and we are well aware of the pain and devastation that such weather brings. Now it is our turn to help others who are in need because of the storm.”.”

The performing arts center seats 1,000 and Aspell said tickets will be sold for $10 in hopes for a full house.

Gartner, a high energy performer, sings the songs of Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and others from that era.. He has performed nationally at casinos, theaters and conventions and has been a popular attraction ar North Wildwood’s oudoor summer series.

Aspell sad the date of Dec. 11 was selected because of the availability of dates in the busy holiday schedule at The PAC and to give the center an opportunity to market the event. By coincidence, the next day will mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of the performing arts center.

Tickets will go on sale Friday at The PAC’s box office ( 609- 463=-1924). Aspell said Contributions also are being accepted for the fund.

The Performing Arts Center is owned by the Middle Township Board of Education and serves a dual purpose, primarily for the school system and secondly as a venue for professional performances for the community. Among the performers it has hosted have been Peter Nero, Brenda Lee, Tammy Wynette, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Whiting, The Lettermen, Shirley Alston Reeves and Nipsey Russell. It is situated at 212 Bayberry Drive, one mile east of exit 10 of the Garden state Parkway.
