Cape May Winery presents “Cabernet Caberet”, a musical benefit to renew and restore historic Church of the Advent on Cape May’s Washington Street, featuring the songs of Ken McBride, “Himself”, a long time favorite of visitors and locals. The event takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at the winery on Townbank Rd. The caberet includes wines from the harvest of Cape May Winery and “little bites” from Washington Inn and Lucky Bones. Also on the agenda is a silent auction including a beach box from Steger’s Beach Rentals, a dining package of gift certificates from Cape May’s finest restaurants, art from fine local artists and many other items. “The community has been very generous in their support”, says Carol Mohr, a member of the planning committee. Ken McBride, “Himself” is a native of Waterford, Ireland who currently resides in Florida. He has been performing throughout much of the United States for many years. In Cape May, many will remember him from his shows at Carney’s, but he has been seen at Atlantic City’s casino’s, especially Harrah’s where he performed for 18 years. His is an expansive repertoire that extends from classical to contemporary to Broadway to the songs of his native Ireland. Church of the Advent has served generations of Cape May residents and visitors since 1866, extending a home to chamber concerts and Film Society presentations, as well as a variety of other civic groups. The restoration began in 2011 as the exterior of the church was sealed and painted. Other projects include interior painting and exposing and finishing the original 19th century flooring. Plans also include renovation of the Parish Hall on Franklin Street to add more public meeting space, educational facilities and an elevator to provide accessibility to the building. To make reservations for the cabaret, call the church office at 609-884-3065 or visit the church website www.capemayadvent.org. by Oct. 19.
