The Avalon Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Seafood Festival on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature more than a dozen food vendors featuring the freshest seafood on the island, as well as retail vendors and crafters. Live music will be provided by popular local artists Marnie Lengle, Wesley Ochs, Sean Loosh and Kate Chew.

This family event is a longstanding tradition in Cape May County, and will offer fun activities for all ages. Children can participate in the popular Paint-a-Pumpkin craft, sand art, face painting and much more. The Sound Advice Lounge will feature a big-screen television and comfy furniture for football fans to enjoy the Saturday college games and, on Sunday, the 1 p.m. Eagles-Steelers game.

The famous Chowder Championship will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 7. Local restaurants enter their best chowder in this contest and visitors can pay a fee to taste all the entries and vote for their favorite. The winner will be named the 2012 Chowder Champion and receive the epic championship trophy.

Sponsors to the event include Sturdy Savings Bank, Ferguson Dechert Real Estate, 7 Mile Times, Avalon Family Grille, Hoy’s 5 & 10, and Allison Valtri Interiors. Admission to the Seafood Festival is free and open to the public.
