On Oct. 13, the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission will host their annual Autumn Beach Clean-up and Dune Grass Planting between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon. Families, individuals, civic groups, scout troops and all other volunteers are invited to participate in this important environmental event.
During the Beach Clean-up, volunteers will collect trash and debris from each of Sea Isle City’s beaches (1st Street to Townsend Inlet) while documenting what type of items they find. That data will be sent to Clean Ocean Action, an environmental organization that works to protect New Jersey’s waterways.
Meanwhile, as Sea Isle City’s beaches are being cleaned, other volunteers will plant dune grass up-and-down the shoreline, which will strengthen the island’s dunes and protect the beaches from erosion.
Pre-registration is not required to participate in the Beach Clean-up and Dune Grass Planting. Volunteers are asked to register on the day of the event at JFK Boulevard and the Promenade, where Environmental Commission members will distribute trash bags and other supplies. Volunteers wishing to plant dune grass are welcome to bring their own small gardening tools.
After the beaches are cleaned and the dunes are strengthened with new plants, the event’s volunteers will be treated to a complimentary buffet luncheon at Mike’s Seafood Restaurant, located on Park Road in Sea Isle City’s historic Fish Alley.
The rain date for the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission’s 2012 Autumn Beach Clean-up and Dune Grass Planting is Sun., Oct. 14. For additional information, please phone (609) 263-2081.
